Athlon published different rankings of the WAC in different issues. I used the ranking from their national college preview. The Big Ten issue predicted: (7) Tulsa, (8) TCU, (3) Fresno State, (4) New Mexico, (5) San Jose State, (6) San Diego State, (7) Texas-El Paso.
This year four magazines failed to account for the rotation of WAC quadrants, which swapped half of the members of the Mountain and Pacific divisions. (These are marked with pink column headings in the above table.) Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, and UNLV were in the Pacific division last year but are in the Mountain division this year. Utah, Brigham Young, New Mexico and Texas-El Paso were in the Mountain division last year but are in the Pacific division this year. As a result of swapping these teams, the following magazines' predictions may have two predictions for the same ranking in the same division (one from a team that was correctly placed in that division, and another from a team that was incorrectly placed in the other division):

Game Plan -- both #4s in the Mountain, both #8s in the Pacific.

Dunnavant -- both #1s and #7s in the Mountain, both #5s and #6s in the Pacific.

Jeff Allen -- both #5s in the Mountain, both #7s in the Pacific.

ATS Consultants -- both #1s and #6s in the Mountain, both #2s and #7s in the Pacific.
